THE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE (ISM-IUK) was created in March 1993 by a decree of the President of Kyrgyz Republic (State license AL # 039) that gave the University a status of international higher education institution. The founders of IUK are the Ministry of culture and education, National Academy of Sciences, and San Francisco State University. In short period of time the IUK has become one of the lading higher education institutions of Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian region. The IUK awards diplomas of state standard.
The IUK is located in the building of the former Politechnical College located in Bishkek. It is one of the older and beautiful building of Bishkek that is located on Chui Prospect - a central street of the city, which once was a Great Silk Road.
All lessons are conducted on western education standards at the IUK - credit-hours system. The IUK students have opportunity to transfer from second and third year to the universities of the USA and Europe.
The IUK has qualified and professional staff and faculty. As much as half of the faculty are Ph.D. or candidates for PH.D. The IUK faculty members have gone through at San Francisco State University (USA), the University of Michigan and Salem institution University (USA), the University of Karlsand (Sweden), the University of Hanover (Germany), Arnhem Business School (the Netherlands), the University of Laplandia (Finland), Tohoku University(Japan), Central European University (Czech Republic & Hungary), and other leading world academic institutions.

The IUK is a member of the World Association of Universities and Colleges (WAUC), Association of European Universities (CRE), European Association for International Education (EAIE), Global Alliance for Transnational Education (GATE), Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), International Association of Universities under UNESCO.
The IUK was awarded with International GOLD Quality Star 2001, founded by the BID (Business Initiative Directions) - organization, with during the many selects companies and institutions with strong activity and business, leadership, new technology implementation and innovation. In 2001 has entered to the list of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The IUK is main organization in creation of Virtual Academy of European and Central Asian Countries and jointly implements education projects of Institute of Distance learning, the World Bank. The UNESCO Institute on new Information technology in Education conducts educational and research work at the IUK.
As a result of a joint project with Arnhem Business School (the Netherlands) and University of Karlstad (Sweden) we joined the Europe Credit Transformation System (ECTS). The IUK offers programs on International business, diplomas of which will meet the standards of the ECTS which recognizing of the IUK's diploma in the states of the EU.
